M51
Object: M51
(NGC5194, Arp 85)
The Whirlpool Galaxy - Spiral Galaxy
Const.: Canes Venatici
Camera: SXV-H9 Scope: Vixen VC200L @ f/6.4 Mount: Losmandy Titan
Filter(s): R:G:B Exposure: 16x4m:16x4m:16x4m Binned 2x2
The Whirlpool Galaxy M51 in Canes Venatici. This image consists of stacks of 16 four minute images taken through red, green and blue filters, for a total exposure time of over 3 hours. The images were acquired using an SXV-H9 CCD camera through a Vixen VC200L 8" f/9 Cassegrain equipped with an f/6.4 focal reducer. The images were calibrated, defect-corrected, stacked and auto color-balanced using AIP4Win V2.

Const.: Canes Venatici
Camera: QSI532 Scope: Tele Vue NP127is Mount: Losmandy Titan
Filter(s): IR block Exposure: 6x8m Blank
The galaxy M51 in Canes Venatici. A stack of 6 eight minute exposures using a QSI532 CCD camera on a Tele Vue NP127is 5" f/5.2 refractor. The image was calibrated, stacked, and a Sigmoid Scaling was performed using AIP4WINV2. This image has been cropped from its original size of 2158x1454.

Object: M51
(NGC5194, Arp 85)
The Whirlpool Galaxy - Spiral Galaxy
Const.: Canes Venatici
Camera: HX-916 Scope: C14 Mount: AP1200GTO
Filter(s): IR block Exposure: 32x30s Binned 2x2
This image is a larger scale view of the core of M51. It is a stack of 32 thirty second exposures through a 14" f/11 SCT. The camera was used in its 2x2 binning mode, yielding 0.71 arc-sec/pixel, slightly oversampling the image. The images were stacked and 10 iterations of a slow R-L deconvolution were performed using AIP4WIN.
